Don SchwabSurrealist works

Don Schwab is the name Slovenian painter Iztok Schwab works under. Born in 1965, he is a contemporary painter whose work explores the uncertain space between reality, memory and imagination. He spent an important period of his early life living and working in London and Amsterdam before returning to Slovenia.

For more than three decades he has been developing Liminal Archives, an expanding artistic universe in which every painting exists as part of a larger, interconnected whole. Rather than offering a fixed narrative, the works create atmospheric environments filled with fragments, figures and structures — traces of worlds forming, disappearing or transforming.

He paints intuitively, building images through collage, layered materials and textured surfaces until the forms reveal themselves. At the heart of the practice is the search for a feeling: something that cannot always be explained directly, but can be experienced through colour, space and atmosphere.
